The subject content of library holdings in the ARGOS database covers chiefly Greek history, philology, archaeology, philosophy, and religion, as well as more generally the civilization of inhabitants of the wider area of the Balkans and the Mediterranean from prehistory to the present day. Also covered are subjects such as historical geography, human geography, archaeometry, historical biography, law, economy, and political institutions.

COMMENT:  Currently the database contains only bibliographic records of works written in languages other than Greek, or which were published outside of Greece. (For Greek entries see “grARGOS” database)

The ARGOS Project was funded by the General Secretariat of Research and Technology during the period 1995-1999, and by the French Archaeological School, the Nordic Library, the Getty Foundation through the American School of Classical Studies, the British School at Athens and the Italian School of Archaeology.
